Basic Class - Introduction to Fly Fishing

The CFCS offers one and two day classes designed to introduce the student to the essential basics of fly fishing and fly-casting, The Introduction to Fly Fishing Class is a one day - six hour class - designed to prepare the student to fish independently and with confidence in a variety of fishing environments. In this class the student will learn the equipment necessary for a successful experience. The class will tailor the material to your fishing interests, whether that is a river, streams, saltwater or still water (lakes).

The student will learn:

  • Three essential fly fishing knots
  • Basic entomology and riparian habitat (where to find fish)
  • Proper equipment and basic water safety

The afternoon session will introduce students to the essentials of fly-casting. The student will learn:

  • The basic casting stroke
  • The roll cast
  • The basic pick-up/lay-down cast

Emphasis will be placed on casting "loop control" and various techniques for presenting the fly in fishing situations.

 

Beginning Fly Casting

This is an excellent class for the beginning student. You will learn everything you need to know in order to fly fish successfully and enjoy your experience without having to rely on others for help. Whether you prefer stream or lake fishing, this class will introduce you to the basics of fly casting and fishing.

In this class the student will:

  • Develop an effective fly casting stroke
  • Learn the roll cast
  • Learn three knots essential to the sport
  • Be introduced to the equipment of the sport
  • Learn basic entomology (bugs)
  • Catch and release a fish!

Cost: $75 per student (this is an all day class)


Intermediate/Advanced Instruction

If you have been fly-fishing for a while, the Columbia Fly Casting School has designed a series of classes to assist you with a variety of fly-casting techniques. Whether you desire to improve or learn the double haul, the spey cast, your presentation casts or improve your accuracy, this class is designed for you.

Cost: $35 per hour, two hours minimum.

Casting Tune-up

If you are a former student of the Columbia Fly Casting School, and desire to fine-tune your casting stroke before that big fishing trip or the opening of your favorite water, the tune-up class is for you. We will design a class and practice drills to fit your specific needs!

Cost: $25 per hour
